collages

2000 – 2011
from Robert, on Siselnámes:
Siselnáme, meaning "mixed melody" in Turkish, also referred to as Painted Papers. They're collages from Greece and Turkey, made mostly while in transit through the sale. They represent the days' pocket hordes and are thick with the expectations of movement. As with much of my work, they were sliced out of the Knotbooks, which in the end is my primary form and habitat. There are about thirty-five of these collages, divided between the two countries in numbered series

from Robert, on Series Homages:
A collage set for the most part. I wrote of it in a statement for a showing of selected works in 2002, "Homages is devoted to Wallace Berman, Vladimir Mayakovsky, and numerous others. Their cue comes perhaps from William Blake, who wrote: 'The most sublime act is to set another before you.' The visual arts seem a less generous field as regards love and fealty than poetry, somehow believing in Immaculate Conceptions. Perhaps it has to do with the market — there's more at stake (more money) in the purchase of objects than there is in the slender volumes poets produce."
