droons
1998 – 2011
from Robert:
Includes a variety of manifestations, each in turn being a kind of testing ground for drawing or "drooning" possibilities ("It is only in accepting the universe as fitful scribble that we can draw up a map," Paul Hammond).
As a figure or altar-ego, Droon began with a series of image/text pieces and concrete poems in notebooks. An early one of these defines his territory: "Droon is to Draw as Draw is to Coleslaw."
As an artist who works at a desk and uses the tools and materials of a writer, I don't draw in the traditional sense; hence, the idea that I don't draw, I droon. The most recent set called New Droon Works — graphite and sumi ink on paper.
